Monday 8th September

Top fish of Day 3, which has now taken the top place, was a Conger Eel, caught by Roger Beer, from Ivybridge, who is a member of the British Conger Club.  Roger hooked his big Eel on a mid-Channel Wreck mark, aboard Kevin Tate's Torquay charter boat, "Anne Clare".

It was taken back to the weigh-in station at Torquay, but proved to be far too heavy for the scales there, so it was put back on-board "Anne Clare".  Kevin Tate and Roger, rushed by sea back to the weigh-in Station at Brixham.

On arrival at Brixham, it was weighed accurately on the calibrated Yard-arm scales, where it recorded 109 lbs 8 ozs.  (199.091% of the 55 lb Specimen weight set in Torbay Festival for Conger from Wreck).  Wow !

Another Lady angler, Allyson Thomas, from Wales, who featured so prominently in last year's Festival, and the preceding one as well, has been fishing hard throughout the week.  Today Allyson caught a top quality Ling, in excess of 18 lbs, from a Wreck mark, aboard Dave Harrison's Dartmouth charter boat "Gemini".  Such is the quality of this year's competition, that Allyson knew that it would not be quite good enough to secure a winning spot, and so did not weigh it in.
